Alfa Romeo at the Paris Show: New Engine Options for Giulietta and Pretty Much Nothing Else

Unless Alfa Romeo has a very big surprise up its sleeves (which we certainly hope so given that the brand is celebrating its 100th birthday this year...), the only new models capable of capturing our attention at the Milanese firm's Paris Motor Show booth will be the usual 'female fatales' standing alongside their automobiles.

According to the company's press release, "the stars" of the Alfa Romeo stand will be the brand-new 140 HP 2.0 JTDM and the 170 HP 1.4 MultiAir turbo petrol with "Alfa TCT" automatic transmission versions of the Giulietta.

When equipped with the new 140-horsepower 2.0-liter turbo diesel, the Giulietta hatchback returns an average fuel consumption of just 4.5lt/10km (equal to 52.3mpg US) with corresponding CO2 emissions of 119g/km.

The second new product for the Giulietta range is the introduction of a dry twin clutch automatic transmission (TCT) combined with the 170 HP 1.4-liter turbocharged gasoline engine. The same transmission will also be offered with Alfa's 170HP 2.0-liter turbo diesel.

The brand-new Alfa TCT, which was first shown on the Mito supermini, is combined with start/stop tech that helps reduce CO2 emissions to 121g/km on the gasoline model.

On an even far less interesting note, Alfa Romeo will also show a couple of MiTo sport hatches and the 2011MY versions of the 159 sedan and Sportwagon (unveiled back in May), including one dressed in "Rosso Competizione" livery and equipped with the new 136-horsepower variant of the 2.0-liter JTDM diesel engine (Euro 5).

Alfa Romeo Giulia Photoshoped on Chrysler 200C RWD Concept

In the world of Photoshop, there are no boundaries other than one's imagination. Take this proposal for the Alfa Romeo's 159 successor called Giulia for example; the guys over at CWW Automotive Design based the chop on Chrysler's latest concept car, the mid-size 200C study that was presented at this year's Detroit Show.

Pure fantasy? Maybe in what concerns the design, but if Chrysler LLC and the Fiat Group end up joining forces and if the American automaker manages to stand on its feet, the 200C that uses a shortened version of the 300's RWD platform could find its way into production and at the same time serve as a base for a next-generation Giulia offering Alfa their first rear-wheel drive sedan in nearly two decades.

Too many 'ifs' if you ask us, but dreaming never hurt anybody.

MY2009 Alfa Romeo 159 with new 200HP 1.8 Turbo and 170HP JTDm

Europe's sexiest mid-size sports sedan -feel free to disagree with us at your own risk (...), the Alfa Romeo 159, will receive two new powertrains for the 2009 model year, a 1.8-liter turbocharged petrol engine and a JTDm diesel, and these are the first official photos of both versions. To be presented at the Geneva Show, the 159 1.8 TBi is equipped with a 1.8-liter turbocharged direct injection gasoline unit producing 200HP while the 159 JTDm will get a new variant of Alfa's four-pot diesel with 170HP. Since there's no press release out, we are unaware of anyother changes on the MY09 159 sedan and SportWagon models.

At the recent Geneva Salon, Alfa Romeo introduced a new 1.75-liter turbocharged 4-cylinder engine for its 159 sports saloon and Sportwagon models that adopt the same designation as one of the most well known sedans ever made by the Italian firm, the 1750 Berlina that was launched in the late 1960s. With the new engine that develops 200HP, the front-wheel drive 159 1750 TBi accelerates from 0 to 100km/h (62mph) in 7.7 while its top speed is 235km/h or 146mph. If you follow the jump, you can check out the new, wallpaper-sized gallery of the 159 1750 TBi as well as photos of its equally seductive 1960s predecessor, the 1750 Berlina.
