How is your local car dealerships rated? And what are the comments about them?
http://www.dealerrater.com/
Manufacturer:
State:
Dealer Name:
Quite a eyeful on the one I read, no punches pulled. Of course happy customers don't get excited enough to comment, only when people are aggravated and looking to get even for being abused , ignored, insulted, or aggravated do we go the extra distance to lash out or warn others.
The next time I find evidence of happy people taking the time to comment, email, blog, or set up websites... will be the first time I ever see it. It's just the way it seems to me.

About ASE certifications, and what it means to have an ASE cert, how to get it etc etc
http://www.ase.com/Content/NavigationMenu/Service_Professionals1/Explore_Certification/About_ASE1/About_ASE.htm
Until the early 1970s, consumers had no way to distinguish between incompetent and competent mechanics. In response to this need, the independent, non-profit National Institute for Automotive Service Excellence (ASE) was established in 1972.
ASE's mission is to improve the quality of vehicle repair and service through the testing and certification of repair and service professionals.
Here's how ASE certification works:
Prospective candidates register for and take one or more of ASE's 40-plus exams. The tests are grouped into specialties for automobile, medium/heavy truck, truck equipment, school bus, and collision repair technicians as well as engine machinists, alternate fuels technicians, parts specialists, auto service consultants, and collision damage estimators.
Upon passing at least one exam and after providing proof of two years of relevant work experience, the test taker becomes ASE certified. Certification, however, is not for life. To remain certified, those with ASE credentials must be retested every five years.

I've found the most dedicated website for C body Mopars or 1969-73
The FUSELAGE website was designed to make people aware of the beauty and elegance of these very impressive, American automobiles:
The 1969 - 1973 Imperial, Chrysler, Dodge Monaco/Polara and Plymouth Fury.
This was done in order to help stop these vehicles from being crushed, neglected or parted out. This website shall assist in identifying the different models in each line and through the years. It shall be a help for auto enthusiasts to determine whether an interior, trim or option was really available to the car model in question. This website also serves as a glorification of the sales material that was produced back then in a very contemporary style.
http://www.fuselage.de/index.html
(why this guy thinks it's illegal for anyone but him to use the images from his website, when he doesn't own the copywrite... Chrysler probably does... is beyond me)

How long is a yellow light at the intersection traffic light?
This question came up today at a safe driver training course at work today, no one know the answer yet... but on the web I came across ...
How long should a traffic light stay yellow?
The length of time that a traffic light stays yellow will vary from one intersection to another. The timing depends mostly on the speed limit and the width of the intersection.
From: http://my.uen.org/documentsDisplay/downloadfile?userid=dhendricks&documentid=3061097
Doesn't answer the question specifically other than to tell the derivation factors. One co-worker states that the 1/10th of speed of the street at the intersection, is the time the yellow light will be on.
So 55mph zone will have a 5.5 second yellow. Maybe this is right, I'll look into it farther.
By the way the safe distance to stop in traffic is the distance that allows you to see over your hood and look at the bottom of the tires of the vehicle in front of you. Liberty Mutual insurance company calls this the "Liberty Wedge"

Studies say: Red-Light Cameras Causing Accidents
Studies from Australia, Canada and the U.S. are cited and not one came back with a positive word for the cameras’ use. In fact, all five studies concluded - due to the red-light cameras – a significant rise in rear-end collisions.

Some of the strangest sights are in your own city, or on your block
Found this between Pacific Beach and LaJolla... looks like it's slowly sinking into the grass, and has been dancing with gravity for a while. What caught my eye was that it's one of the teeny early model Hondas... Then I noticed that it has what appears to be factory performance looks. But what possible performance could they have added at the factory to this little econo box? If you know, email me and spread the word. jbohjkl@yahoo.com

Crippled Old Biker Bastards society
C.O.B.B. is an elite Society of Crippled Old Biker Bastards and Bitches who have overcome the fear of riding after a crash, and we all know that Crashing Sucks!
The difference is, we are persistent, positive thinking people, who continue to ride after a road casualty.
FACT: We are not a Motorcycle Club, nor do we have intentions of becoming one. We are merely a Society of imperfect people who due to the fault of ourselves, or others, are bound together by the fact that we have “to one degree or another,” had an imperfect riding incident on a motorcycle. There is no way one could or want, by my way of thinking, probate for such a society.

KNBC video journal of a sting on Jiffy Lube ripping off customers
http://bitsandpieces1.blogspot.com/2008/01/think-twice-when-you-get-your-car.html
2 you tube videos of the news show coverage, and additional info from a Jiffy Lube exec in response to being busted for fraud
Just keep an eye on what you are paying other people to do, and you won't be likely to be ripped off.
Always ask friends and co-workers for a good mechanic (or any service you have to pay for) they can recommend, and pass along the good word on ones you recommend (I do right here on this blog, I hope you live in San Diego and use them)

Leadsled 65 Jag MK 10, owned by shoemaker John Fluevog
The Jaguar MK 10 that Sigurd Fluevog bought back in 1965 with his son along, was a rusted-out hulk, ready for the scrapyard. But the father and son decided to make a crusier out of it ... very cool. They went to RX Autoworks in north Vancouver, which does Pebble Beach Concours winning stuff.
They lowered the roof four inches, lengthened the front about three inches, changed the wheel well shape, lengthened the headlights two inches, changed the tail lights.
It’s got more modern Jaguar steering, air conditioning, a Lt1 Corvette engine, air suspension and a croc-skin interior.
Featured in the June '05 Driven magazine. http://www.fluevog.com/files_2/pdf_documents/driven-june-2005.pdf and http://www.fluevog.com/files_2/flueguar.html via http://www.3autos.com/20070602/Behold-the-Flueguar,14917/
