New Honda Accord Type-S with More Potent 180HP Diesel

Alongside the European version of the Insight Hybrid, Honda's Geneva Show stand will also host the debut of the sporty Accord Type-S fitted with a new 180-horsepower derivative of the firm's 2.2-liter i-DTEC turbo diesel engine that produces in standard form 150HP. Torque has also been increased by 30Nm to 380Nm at 2000rpm. To justify the 'Type-S' badge Honda has enhanced the Accord's (sold as the Acura TSX in the States) appearance with a discreet aero-package.

The kit adds to the Accord new lower bumper sections, front chin spoiler, sill extensions, Type S badges and smoke chrome finished grille. Complimenting this suite of cosmetic changes will be clear indicator covers, newly designed 18-inch alloy wheels plus two new paint colours – Premium White Pearl and Basque Red.

"The 180PS diesel model will be a welcome addition to the Accord range, especially for company car drivers that want a high-specification car in an even sportier package," said Graham Avent, Manager – Corporate Operations, Honda (UK). "This model will undoubtedly appeal to high-performance diesel enthusiasts, looking for that something extra, but we hope it will also create a halo-effect across the diesel Accord range."

The Accord Type S will be available in either saloon or Tourer bodyshapes with manual transmission. Honda said that performance, fuel economy and emissions data will be available once homologation is completed, while pricing will be announced nearer the on sale date later this year.
